Hi, this is my first post, but I've been lurking here for a long time.

I need to know if there is a way to download the file field descriptions from an AS/400 DB to Crystal Reports.

We have a client who is attempting to generate their reports using Crystal now, but are being stymied by the field descriptions not being available.

I apologize if I've not given enough information, but I'm not sure what you might need to know.

There are a couple of possibilities. On an AS400 command line, enter "DSPFFD Your Library/Your Filename". This will display all of the field descriptions. F4 will give you the option of printing them out.

To see a field description once your are actually seeing data in a Crystal Report, click on the Field List, click on the Field you want to see, Right Click and select Browse Data. If it's a big file, this may take a while. You will then see a partial list of values and the specific size and type of field that Crystal is processing.

Hope this helps.
