I am trying to establish a small network (5 computers).
I have just finished installing NT Server. I would like for each user to have their own directory in which to save files. I would also like these directories to be able to be backed up by our tape drive. I am assuming that there needs to be login scripts in place. Two of the five computers are in the office with the server, and three are outside the office. The server has a cable modem and two NICs.

Are there any articles or Microsoft Knowledge Base Documents that deal with these issues?

The simplest way would be to create a folder called users (or similar), then create a subfolder for each user and share it, giving read/write permissions only to that user.

Then, in the login script, use the command net use to map it as a unique drive for each user. The same drive letter could be used in each case.

Backing these folders up to tape is as simple as running the built-in backup software that comes with NT. You can use this to do a selective backup, and schedule backups so that they happen out of hours.

Perform a series of test backups/restores, and try to do this regularly, to make sure that the backups are

a) Still happening correctly.
b) Not corrupting.

Hope this helps.
