I'm sure this is very simple, but how do you change the default colour of the artboard from white to anyother color?? many thanks

the simplest way is to make a rectengular coloured path, that covers the artboard, and lock pixels, since illustrator is a vector shape program.[you can hide the art board if you like].

you cannot change the colour otherway, because that is an imaginary artboard, since the program is made up of vectors.

From the help menu:

To change the color of the artboard:

1 Choose File > Document Setup. Then choose Transparency from the pop-up menu at the top left of the Document Setup dialog box.

2 Select Simulate Colored Paper.

3 Click the top color swatch, and select a new color using the Color dialog box.

4 Click OK.

Note: It will not simulate opaque white objects correctly.

Looks like i'm going to have to use a coloured path, which is a bit of pain as it means i'm always going to have to delete before exporting an image.

What i'm working on has a lot of white lines and text which don't show up on JohnKgreek's method, which is a shame as that would have seemed to be the easiest and most helpful.

Cheers everyone.
