Hi,

I am having a problem with the YA and dialing contacts from outlook, it is not putting a 9 in front of outlook contacts.

I have explained to my customer that he needs to format his contacts numbers correctly in order for this to work, his problem is he has thousands of contacts and is complaining about editing them all!
Basically he is being a ar$ehole!!

I had an idea that i could just change the system programming so that they do not need to dial a 9 for an outside line, i made the changes that i thought were required but i then could not make outbound calls at all, the changes i made were:

- ARS Leading Digits Assignment, i just deleted the line so that nothing was in here at all.

- ARS Digits Dialed Assignments, i just removed the 9 from all the digits.

None of this worked, is there another form that i need to change as i thought this was it?

Thank you,

You must use a leading digit that is what lets the pbx no its a calling going outside of the pbx. You could try enter all his contacts into ars but the best bet is to tell him he has to edit his contacts

He shouldn't have to re config all his contacts.

What you need to do is change the dialling rules in Outlook.

Not in front of an Outlook so can't say off the top of my head but if you open up a contact, click on call then go to dialling options i think it is and you can change the dialling options to insert 90 for national etc. As long as numbers are set up in e64 format i.e. +44 1481 123456 it will change to dial 90148112345?

Try that first, have another idea also

I seem to remember needing to add the Dial 9 in the Phone and Modem option in the control panel of the PC. the Advanced tab will have the driver for the Mitel TAPI interface and it can be configured.

Don't have a live system in front of me though. Going from memory.

Some customer should shut up :)
HE is making his problem your problem
Tell him that his boss wanted this feature and you can not help him :)

yopu're thinking of System Options Assignment form on the 3300 and "prefix for external applications" (or something like that.

That was going to be my other option

Unfortunately he is the MD of the company!

All his contacts in outlook are not set up with the country code which is why outlook is not dialing the number correctly!
He seems to think it is our problem that he has not entered the numbers in the correct format.
The phone and modem options are set up correctly on the PC.

Dont you just hate awkward customers?!?

Can i not enter a 0 in the ARS Leading digits assignment and enter it as the prefix for external apps?

Thanks for all replys

MitelMatt, No I was not thinking of the system option and Wontwork already mentioned it is set regardless.

Basically the TAPI interface for the phone that YA uses gets set up as a modem on the PC. The dialing parameters and rules can be config'd on the PC under Control panel, Phone and Modem options, then advanced, then select Mitel TAPI, then Configure.

I'll admit I'm not 100% sure of this and the above only applies to my pc running XP and I loaded the YA Lite to map out the steps.

Wontwork - your name is approriate for this issue. Don't mess with the ARS. The problem is not with the Mitel phone system or with the YourAssistant application. It is a problem with his PC and configuration of Outlook. End of story! His laziness should not force you to break everything else that is working, regardless of who he is. I have learned long ago that customers are not always right. They pay you for your expertise and they should listen to a NO when given.

As for 0 in the ARS, what else in your system uses 0? Perhaps dialing out of VM? Depends on what you have set up. Again, you stand the chance of breaking something just to satisfy this guy.

Also, I don't think putting anything in the External apps field will help in this case.

Paterson is right
Even when he is the king or president or whatever
You should not even try
Tell him that messing around will make the system unstable and then you are not responsible for that !
Ask him who made those contacts in outlook anyway :)
