I removed this short code and added it back to my ARS Table. It is now at the bottom, is the order important? I do not see a way to re-arrange the order to have the "11" Emergency Short Code back at the top.
the order is not important as you can sort by any column and as long as you don;t have duplicates you are good to go.
I suggest to put a ; behind the 11 to add a pause (default 4 seconds) if you have digital lines
and also
add a SC 11x with feature Barred to kill the call if the 1 is dialed by mistake
11; can be removed because you are dialing 9 to get to the ARS table. It was 9 to hit ARS, then 11 would = 911 and the 911 SC was actually for 9911.
11X needs to be changed to 911X since you don't use 9 to dial out. What it does is if you dial 9+11+any more digits it will drop the call because most likely you misdialed. This misdial happens a lot more when you use 9 to dial out... people dial 9 to dial out then 1 for before area code it is easy to hit 1 twice.
The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
the combination of 11; and 11x will prevent people from double dialing the 1 for LD and continue to dial after dialing for example 9112125551234 and keep going after the 11. The double tabbed 1 is no longer causing issues with this entry.
I put that into all systems with digital trunks and even with analog lines I put it in just in case they don't see the 911 in the beginning when dialing.
@Critchey we were talking only about the ARS entries, the system SC is 9N - dial - N - ARS ID
the 9 for dialout and then the ARS entry of 11 would dial 911 immediately and get the emergency services to your doorstep with a bill. if you have 911x in the ARS (and no 911) then you can never dial 9 - 911 again so careful with that.
So just to be clear, most of my customers request to disable a dial out code, such as 9 - so they just dial the phone number as they would say on their cell phone.
So I did some testing with the short codes.
When Dialing 11 and a phone number, the call does get barred.
When Dialing just 11 and waiting, it seems like it connected to 9-1-1 sooner than 4 seconds, more like 2.
Since you're not dialing 9 for outside access, remove the 11; entry
No one is going to dial just 11 and expect to reach 911
But keep the 911;/Dial Emergency/911 entry, so when they dial 911 they get 911
Keep the 911X (or 911N) entry, so if they dial a telephone number starting with 91 and they fat-finger the 1 and end up dialing it twice, the call is blocked.
Personally, I don't start extension or hunt group extensions with 1, keep 9N dialing, but also do 1N/Dial/1N/50:Main to allow dialing 1+ArecCode+TelephoneNumber for domestic (US) calls
