I have a dell server with a array attached and we attached a lto adic unit. Every time we run a tape backup, we then try to do a backup to the array, it says the array is offline. Reboot the server and everything works again until we run a tape backup.
We want to do backup to disk then once a week burn to tape. The only problem is we find we have to reboot after running the tape unit.

Hold on! This could Hurt! I ain't certified by Microsoft!

Thanks

When Moses was given the 10 commandents, there were amendments, one was ...

Thou shall not run a TBU on any raid array adapter, or the plague of bad bits will be upon you, and the family of Admins

Get a separate scsi adapter for the TBU, or have constant problems.

So this is a known issue?

Not a issue, just this is a fact with any raid adapter. I would recommend purchasing an Adaptec scsi controller for the TBU due to compatibility with tape backup units and software. Dell servers generally have built in sscsi channels, you may already have one, check the machine specifications
