Array of problems on new tapes.
The Proliant server with HP 12/24 Dat running windows 2000 server with Varitar 8.0.
After having so many failed backups ran the Compaq diagnostic. Indicated tape device healthy.
After calling Compaq ran their online tape drive software interface to tweak the tape scsi device. Bought brand new tapes. Even with the new tapes the array of problems keeps generating failed backups.

If the tape drive is reported -healthy.
If the tapes are -brand new. If the Varitas driver was updated. If the Compaq tape utility tweaked the device...
where can one locate a process of correction? After our upgrade to 2000 server the backup ran for many months -smoothly. These last 5 weeks its just so unpreditable. This let me conclude the device was compromized. Compaq disagrees.

Here is the recent Varitas log to illustrate:
On a brand new blank tape -'no more data is on the tape ^^^^
On another new blank tape -'The object invoked has disconnnected from its clients ^^^^
and 'A tape access reached a filemark^^^^

Some nights its a good backup. Some nights its a failed backup. Nothing is predictable.

Appreciate any thoughts
Thanks
