The disk array on my E3500 is near capacity. Is an external array expansion a better solution or should I just replace the current disks with larger disks of the same size.Any suggestion is welcomed.
"Larger disks of the same size" sounds like a bit of a contradiction, but I get your drift. ;-)
If the application is I/O intensive it might be best to add another array as the additional spindles may improve performance. Also it would give you the option of mirroring across controllers, which would give you more redundancy. It would also save you having to migrate the data off the old disks.
Getting larger disks would most probably be cheaper though. Annihilannic.
So your E3500 has eight internal disks, and an external array? How many disks are in the array?
If you want to replace the existing disks with larger ones you will have to make sure that the data on them is mirrored.
Are you using Veritas Volume Manager or Solstice Disksuite?
You would have to break any mirrors, replace the disk and then reconstruct the mirrors. I'm not sure you'll find a procedure describing exactly how to do this. Annihilannic.
