I recently upgraded from 2000 to XP Pro and everything was going well for a couple of months until my folders started to display items in a random order. Every time I right click anywhere inside the folder and click on Arrange by Name, it sorts the files correctly by name but only until I close the folder. When I re-open it, again disarray and I have to do the same procedure. When I click on Arrange - for some reason not a single command has a dot next to it signifying that it's a default so when I click on Name, the dot does not appear.
Where do I change the settings to make Arrange by Name as a default so that I don't have to right-click every time I open the folder?
In general I heard that it's better to install the new OS fresh rather than upgrading because it gives you "problems." Is this what you'd recommend i.e. to install XP fresh? I just don't wanna spend all this time backing up my files and then reinstalling all the software that I have. It's such a pain...
