Hi all,

i 2x8300 at the core and stack of 4 5510 on the edges when t connect a lap top with a static ip to one of the edges it works fine, but when remove it and connect it to other edge it does not work and i can't ping it, i check the ARP table in the first edge i still see it there. a delete it manually and still does not work in the other edge, could you help me why is that happening ??!!.

what should i do to make the laptop moving free without this problem.

Best Regards.

Some additional information would be helpful.
- What version of software are you running on the 8300s and 5510s.
- Are you running them as a switch cluster with an IST and connecting the 5510s via SMLT?
- Are you performing Layer 3 at the edge 5510s or are you just using Layer 2 at the edge and leaving Layer 3 at the 8300s?
- Is this a new network installation?

You referred to the ARP table on the edge 5510 which makes me thing that you are using Layer 3 (routing) at the edge. If that's the case you'll have different IP networks at each edge switch so a static IP wouldn't work in different IP networks.

Cheers!

i use the IST and SMLT, no the edge switch is just layer 2,
the network is about 8 month installed, the version of software is the same one chipped with, and another thing the network is running as flat for the time being.

Is there any VRRP configured on the core? If so, is backup master enabled in the VRRP interface settings? Is STP disabled on your uplinks at both the edge and core?

Just throwing out some ideas. You could also try disconnecting one of the core uplinks at each edge switch to rule out any type of MLT/SLMT/IST issues.
