Hello,

I have a server running RH5.5 and I need to add an entry into arp for out software to work. I'm using the following syntax and it seems to be failing:-

arp -s hostname HWADDR

SIOCSARP: Invalid argument

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Cheers

Nick

hello,

Its not contained in /etc/hosts but its in DNS but I will double check.

I also tried using the ip address but that also failed, should that not work?

Hello,

I have checked and the server details are in /etc/hosts and if I run an nslookup <server_name> its resolving. So I'm kinda confused as to why this arp -s command is not working.

cheers

I'm using the one thats contained in the following file:-

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

I have just noticed that the reverse lookup on this server is wrong, could this be the cause of the problem?

Hello,

I got it sussed:-

arp -i eth0 -s <hostname> <HWADDR>
