ARN Configuring the serial blade questions

Is anyone familiar with configuring the serial blade on an ARN router? I have always had full T1s and now we are splitting the T1 for voice and data so I need to configure the serial blade and of course I cannot find any useful documentation. Does anyone on this list have any experience with this config or could point me in the right direction for a successful resolution.?

From what you are saying.The expansion sloi in the ARN with a HSSI card ?

I assume you're familiar with Nortel routers and how to manage them. If not, I apologize.

If you're using a standard serial card or tri-serial expansion module, it's pretty much set up in this order: Log into the router with Site Manager, find the interface, select your WAN protocol, add the network protocols to that interface (IP/IPX/RIP/BOOTP, etc), and go from there.

When using serial/V.35, the router doesn't really know or care how many channels are available on the T-1, unless you're doing some type of QOS or traffic shaping, in which case you need to define the available bandwidth on the interface so it can dequeue the packets properly.

Most any problem you'll have when using a serial/V.35 interface will be in misconfigurations of your CSU/DSU, add/drop mux, whatever you're using.

If it's a new router setup, you can run the inst_arn.bat file from a console session and you'll be prompted to configure the interface parameters. That will get you a basic configuration with no bells and whistles.

Thanks biv343,yes I am familiar with Nortel routers, I just have never used the tri-serial expansion module. I’m using MIB v13.20 and I can definitely see the circuits and get them active however on the LAN side the Ethernet circuit will not activate and all of the access for Site Manager is being done through the original Ethernet circuit on the base module.

Comm. 3 is “used” and the LAN Ethernet is “used” however neither one can be seen on pings so I know I just haven’t turned the corner. Because of the frac T1 we are using a Kentrox DataSMART® T1 MAX™ Quad-port, Add/drop, and the 8 channels for the voice is up and working well.

Since I still have no access at work I have to retrieve everything after I get home.
