arithmetic for low power devices??

hi,

I have a processor to design which involves multiplications and divisions and which results in real numbers. My application needs to be a low-power device. Speed is not of major concern. Which arithmetic is use-ful? Is it floating point arithmetic or fixed point arithmetic? Are there any other issues to be concerned?
