Jbuilder, Visual Cafe, Visual Age, MS or other. I don't need an enterpirse version, single user will do.

blindpete@mail.com

Visual Cafe is good, I use it at work every single day, but it can crash a lot if you use it heavily. But you really have to use it pretty heavily for that to happen...
Liam Morley
lmorley@wpi.edu
<a href=
Visual Age is pretty good, once you've got a handle on its features. There is a 'pro' edition that does not include all of the 'enterprise' stuff. It may require NT as well.
Thanks to all!

I have been alternating between using Jbuilder2 and VisualCafe. I don't really like either of them and have lately just been using the notepad and the command line compiler. My basic problem is that both Jbuilder2 and ViuslCafe hang my system after an hour or so. I have PII233 w/ 96MB and many giga's free drive space.

I figure I have set something up wrong but can't figure out what. any thoughts, tips etc would be greatly appreciated.

blindpete@mail.com

BlindPete, I noticed that about the IDE's for java, they seem to lock up the computer (in win98 anyway) and frankly what I wanted out of the IDE's is simple a visual GUI builder, similar to what M$ has for visual basic( I know, I know it has a large number of problems, but you have to admit that it's visual design environment is exceptional).

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

Fenris,

How right you are! I have been spoiled by M$ visual compilers too. They are a great way to start, but once you really get deep into the language you end up writing most of it the hard way. I too wish Java had simple form builder.. I'd still write all the methods anyhow. Nitai is right about Jbuilder its close... but unstable at least for me.

Thanks to all again. I'll just stick with notepad for now.

blindpete@mail.com

and I think it is great. My favorite feature is that it colorizes java keywords which makes the code easier to read and find errors.

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

Thanks to all again.

Tried both editPad and textPad both are usefull but I prefer textPad because I can complie and run apps from it as well... Also I use textPad for about three hours and no bomb, which is always good.

blindpete@mail.com
