Hello,

I am trying to make a filled yellow wavey rectangle with text inside that follows the shape of the wave and am not sure how to do it. i tried making a rectangle and then clicking area type - but got the following message.

"you must click on a non-compound non-masking path to create text inside a path"

Can i make text inside a straight rectangle and then wave it all at once? or do i need to make the wavey rectangle and then make a path using the pen tool and get the text to follow that?

Thanks for your help.

Make the wavy rectangle and leave it selected. Choose Type on Path tool - flyout from the text tool. Place it where you want to start the text & don't worry about whether it's inside or outside the box. It will default to outside.

After you're finished typing, go to Type menu/type on path/options. To move it inside the box select ascender from "align to path" to increase the spacing inside the path use the spacing section below "align".

If you just want wavy text or some other effect, you can also select standard text box and go to Effect menu/warp and release the mouse on and effect. Then you'll get a widow with the various type effect, including flag and wave - and many more. You cna then play with various settings as you wish. Just select the preview button so you cna view your changes.
