I have a Toshiba Strata DK280, on T1. I lost connection to 2 area codes that we normally dial every day. It has been a week. The service provider says its the PBX, and the PBX programmer says it's the service provider. Please present any thoughts or Ideas.

Do you have access to any POTS lines with the same service provider? If you do, test the connections to the two area codes from those lines. If you get through on a POTS line, then the problem is likely the PBX programming. If you can't, then the problem is probably the service provider.

Hi Susan,
Thank you for responding,
Im not sure of the term POTS line, but if im correct it's a line that does not get switched by the PBX.
I have two phone lines which are used by the fire alarm.
I cannot dial the area codes with those lines either.
The service provider can dial the area codes on thier phones with no problem, they also tell me that when we dial those numbers, no trace or record shows up on the T.

The PBX guy says, we are not doing any switching and no call blocking of any kind.

POTS = Plain Old Telephone System
In other words, a line that is not serviced by the PBX. I would hope that your fire alarm lines fall into this category.

What area code are you calling from, and what are the two "missing" area codes? Also, have you checked with your long-distance provider, as well as your local carrier?

Yes they are POTS but they go through the same provider, sho handles local and LD. Cell phone from this area works just fine.
If the power goes out and the PBX is without power long enough for the battery to fail, the fire alarm lines still work.

My area code is 541, the problems are 574 and 260. The two codes have no problem calling me.

JL

My guess is that the fault lies with the provider.

574 and 260 are old codes, established on 01/15/2002. Can you make calls to other parts of Indiana?

I would suggest having your carrier trouble shoot the fire alarm lines. That way they cannot point to the PBX as a possible source of problem. Ask them to traces those lines and/or send a technican on-site to troubleshoot. If the provider is not in the same area code/exchange as you, it might not mean anything that they can dial the numbers and you can't.

Cell phones usually have their own local/ld carriers, further pointing to a provider problem.

a possibility also is that your long distance carrier lost those area codes in their database, try doing a direct pic to a different LD carrier and see if call goes thru ie 1010288 (att) or 1010222 (sprint I think).

As I recall, POTS is plain old telephone service, not system?

Just making sure if I'm incorrect.

I didn't see that any one asked -- what error are you getting when you dial those numbers? Ie. a recording, or just a fast busy... or what?

Is this a PRI or? Who is the carrier? And are they a CLEC, or an ILEC -- furthermore, is this a fairly popular carrier in your area? If so, are other people having the same problem? Does your PBX switch have any tracing capability to show which trunk it's sending the call out on?

AvayaNovice - you're correct, it should be service, not system. Guess I just like making up my own acronyms! ;-)

No problem, I didn't mean to be rude, I just wanted to make sure I hadn't been saying the wrong thing for several years!

Thanks everyone for the great responses.

The problem was infact the carrier not the system.
just solved today.
The PBX guy got on the phone with the carrier and told them what to do, go figure.
Any how, looking for a new provider, think i found one.

Thanks again.
You've all been helpful

Have your LD carrier verify the PIC code in use... This happens alot.
