I am part of the michigain 269 area code switch. currently our users do not need to dial the area code whenever they call the 616 area, what do i need to change so that they don't have to dial 269? thanks

Now may be the time to start getting your people used to dialing 10 digit local calls instead of 7 digit.

You can set up a route pattern to do what you want, but eventually the numbers in the 269 and 616 area codes are going to start to overlap and you'll be forced to dial 10 digit local.

Best to start them dialing 10 now while it is not necessary then to wait until it is, or at least that is what I think.

Hope that helps.

so ameritech is forcing 10 digit locals, or its just recomended

We went through something similar in NJ. What we did in the affected switches was set up the ARS so that if a user dialed the 7 digit number the G3 would insert the NPA. If they dialed the 10 digit number it would complete as usual, and if they dialed an 11 digit number (1+NPA) the switch would delete the digit 1 if it wasn't required. A little more programming but the calls went through. You should get a 'free call' list from your LEC to define which calls are 'local'. Set up test routes for 7, 10, & 11 digit calls to a specific number to verify your translations. After a given period of time you should be able to delete the 7 digit entries.

I'm so sorry, I thought that was an area code overlay not a split. You should not have to change how you dial calls in the 616 area code. Local calls to 269 you will have to dial as 10 digits. I would do what 4merAvaya describes with your route pattern(s). I still think it would be a good idea to get your users used to dialing 10-digit local for the 269 numbers though.

Here's some links to the SBC pages that may be helpful, I am sure you have looked at these before though:
