I have windows xp with 1024mb. I have zone alarm pro and nortons security 2005 installed. They seem to fight each other. are they compatible?

As a general rule of thumb, nothing is compatible with norton. It has a tendancy to try to take over, and when other programs cross into the relm of what a norton program wants to independantly handle, problems arise. Nuke the norton and go with something that you control, rather then something that controls your computer.

Norton Security contains a firewall, as well as an anti-virus program. By combining Zone Alarm with Norton Security I would think that you were actually causing a conflict. Zone Alarm by itself has become very hard to set up to properly block your ports. Now, take Norton's firewall (which I don't use, so I don't know much about it) and I would think that you would have grounds for a nice biiiig conflict.

I would suggest that if you feel you need two firewalls, make one a hardware firewall (on your router or switch), and the other use zone alarm which is a pretty good firewall by itself.

Kaycek & Khoeth,
Appreciate the replies.
Another source says to disable Nortons Internet Security and use only Anti-virus,along with ZOne Alarm.
ConfuseD.

I would strongly suggest that. I don't have much faith in the Norton firewall.

NOT compatible
I recommend Norton 2005 & using it since 20002.Zonal is nothing but another flashing headache.

Yes, Zone Alarm can be a pain to configure, however once configured, it doesn't seem to give the problems several of the others do.

I went with Zone Alarm until we went with a hardware firewall, and I am thinking of putting it back on to create a nice DMZ for our access to the 'NET

Not compatible. I use only Norton now. Started out with zonealarm, but norton has gotten much more sophisticated. Stick with Norton.
