Are these OE6 and DUN wizard errors related?

OK, I'll try to be brief on this! [morning]

Had a fully functioning win2k prof SP4 client working this afternoon. Went to windowsupdate to get 24 updates/patches. At the end of the process it showed that it had failed to install half of them but it told me to reboot which I did...oh dear!

It would get to desktop and then go through a continuous cycle of program error popups and never completely loading. I eventualy got it back up running the second time I repaired it.

At the moment I'm considering doing fresh install as I can seem to get past the following problems which I think might be interrelated.

Email doesn't work (OE6) -I get the infamous "OE could not start because MSOE.dll could not be loaded". I've tried various fixes I've found from Tomsterdam/Google/Microsoft from checking the read only status of the dbx files, moving folders.dbx, moving the entire lot of dbx files to reinstalling (twice) OE6.

The second problem is that my DUN connectoids have disappeared and when I try to create one I always end up getting:

"Connection to nomatterwhatItype" is not a valid name. The entry must contain at least one character that is not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a different name."

This happens no matter what I type. I've seen mention of this on Google as being a win2k bug but I haven't found a solution.

Are these two particular problems related? Should I cut my losses and do a fresh install? Also, some of the programs need reinstalling as the registry must be missing a fewreferences from the repair.

I'm also a bit worried that installing the MS patches caused all this -should I have NOT rebooted? [ponder]

Thanks

Dan

Remove the listed Hotfixes if installed discussed here: thread616-938509

Then follow with a sfc /Scannow

Thanks, I'll give that a go tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

I had one of them installed (KB841356) which I removed, rebooted then did a sfc /scannow. Same problems exit though, so I've began reinstalling Win2k -I've spent enough time on this one unfortunately.

Thanks
