I hope I'm in the right forum - I've no idea what category "drivers" fall under. If this is the wrong forum, please redirect me.

I went to the SiS site to check on what type of chipset I have and the Chipset identifier recommended the following updates. I have no idea what these are really for - my machine is running fine and I don't want to do anything to mess it up. I have an Asus running Win98 and I'm not experiencing any problems ... but can always use improvement. Can anyone tell me what installing the following drivers would do for my PC? I don't want to install anything that may cause a conflict with what I already have.

1. AGP (GART) Driver v1.17E
2. IDE Driver v2.04
3. 900 Fash Ethernet Controller Driver

If you need any more system info, please just ask. Thanks!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Updates are normally done when problems exist with a device. Unnecessary updates can cause problems.

1. Allows more resolution change range.
2. Slightly speeds up hard drive access (more effecient).
3. Upgrades the on-board LAN connections.

I agree with wunkunn, if you are happy, don't mess with it. Some of the upgrades may apply to other OS's, and may not even apply to you!

Thank you both for your replies. I agree, if it ain't broke don't fix it although I really appreciate your response, micker377, I wanted to know what these updates did. Under the circumstances I will do the IDE one because speeding up HD access is certainly going to be helpful. Thanks again.
