I have developed reports on Crystal Reports 8.5 for use in a w2k, IIS ASP environment. I am assembling the SQL/selection criteria for subreports dynamically in ASP and then passing these to crystal reports. We are looking into upgrading to Crystal Enterprise professional 8.5.

What I need to know before we upgrade to Crystal Enterprise is this: does Crystal Enterprise interact with ASP, specifically for selection criteria for subreports, in the same way as Crystal Reports, or will we have to redesign our reports to accomodate a different method?

Hi,

I have the exactly same situation as you one year ago. Hope I can explain it clearly.

1. Crystal Enterprise can't interact with ASP, it has its own CSP to do reporting. You need to create your own customized CSP page, which should be lot of samples online.

2. Even from CSP, you can't dynamically select your subreports. To implement it, you can pass section names as a parameter string, like "Da,Db,Dc,Dd..." and then dyanmically suppress sections base on it.

3. For the difference between CR and CE, also lot of threads on Tek-Tips.

Ted.

Thank you very much Ted, I was afraid of that... One more question:

well, explanation first. I have a client who as another independent contractor that is utilizing CE 8.5 on the Client's server, the client is not interested in installing a standalone Crystal Reports 8.5 (or there wouldn't be a problem). We're upgrading to CE 8.5 on our development server to match the client environment. However:

From what I've been reading, I've gotten the impression that The reports must be developed and published on the production server. Is this true? If we have a mirror image Database (SQL Server 2000) can we design the reports on the development server and then have the client publish them on their production server? Unfortunately, development on the production server is not an option.

Thank you very much for your time!

Hi,

Sorry for getting back so late. Last weekend is a long weeekend here.

You can develop your reports in any development environment and publish to the CE system by CMC. I know lots of post there saying directly modify reports in CE system. But I don't think it's an option too ASAP CE system is used as a production server.

You need to delete the existing report with the same name in CE via CMC first because it doesn't allow 2 reports with same name in CE system.

Hope it helps.

Ted
