Hi I got an unbranded router that came to me by way of somebody elses upgrade, has no manufact markings and i had to guess the psu voltage
I have configuered routers before and had no problem, I can access its webserver and set it up no probs, i've given it a new password and dhcp works just fine etc etc, however it won't detect the dsl carrier signal on the line, I have used a speedtouch modem to connect on this line so i know there is now problem with the service, its as if there is no cable plugged in and i wanted some other opinions to re-inforce my own..
ignoring the console lights, there are the following lights listed under WAN...... CD LNK ACT , i presume cd is carrier detect lnk is link and ACT is activity.. the ACT light has a steady blink and the other two are off...
I think that the wrong cable is plugged into the WAN side of the link , I'm using the same cable that works fine into the dsl modem..
The question is this .. what lights should be lit on the router for me to be sure there is a link, .. I presume that its the CD light, then when a link (ppoa) is estabhlished the link light comes on and when it being used the activity light goes light goes mad.. sounds kinda obvious now i type it out , but hey all the routwers i've seen i in the past just had the one dsl light and that was it....
i beleive that in most domestic situations in the uk its VPI = 0 VCI =38 ppoa and VCMUX , I also believ that if i have set up the router with these details incorrect it will not make any difference to the bloody lights on the front...
thanks for taking the time to read this far and for any help you may offer. Cheers
