Are dual BSDS really needed these days ?

When DB2 tracks the logs/archinve logs it writes to TWO BSDS datasets to keep critial startup information available. With the advances in DASD these days, are two copies still needed (in your opinion). Is is even possible to turn off the 2nd BSDS ? In the old days the reason IBM did this was to prevent data loss in the case of an HDA DASD failure. But with mirrored dasd and emulated disk this is basically not an issue any longer. Has anyone else looked into this already ? [ponder]
