I`ve seen a lot of questions about ArcServe2000 with Windows2000 Server problems. As I need to buy a backup software, I need to know if is ArcSErve2000 a stable software. Could you help me?
On windows 2000, ARCserve is the only software to have achieved Windows Logo certification, all other backup products are still working on it. Veritas may have gotten it recently, I am unsure.
Logo certification basically means that it works brilliantly with windows 2000 and that microsoft has certified it for use with windows 2000.
yeah, it all depends on what you want to backup. Brightstor EB is more of an enterprise wide solution with manager (cross-platform) on Unix (currently Solaris and HP-UX with other flavours to be released very shortly) and NT/2000.
ARCserve is more of a medium business solution, there are no managers on unix except for arcserve for Linux, and there are managers on NT and Netware.
Brightstor also has a lot more functionality and the concept of Domains so that you can add users to your backup domain irrespective of the NT rights given to them.
I.e, you can have a guest user submit your backup jobs and have full brightstor EB access if your worried about security on your machines and giving a backup operator your administrator password.
