ARCServe2000 - unable to add session record - disk space issue

I am new to ARVServe 2000, it was already set up here at work, new job, I am the new "expert". It has suddenly started having the issue of not enough disk space for backup. We are backing up to tape. I ASSUME it does some writing to the hard drive before it goes to tape. I have read all I can from online help and am still lost. I have no other documentation here. I don't know which files are needed for this backup. I would like to clean off the drive BUT. . what can go and what has to stay? I know there is an issue of why things are being left behind but not sure how that ties into the picture. I am just looking to get a good backup again! I know I am very vague but this is all news to me.
