We have Arcserve v9 installed on a W2K server in a W2K domain. Our Exchange 5.5 NT4 server is in a different domain with 2-way trusts set up. As well as a different domain it is also on a different subnet.
I have the Exchange agent installed on the NT4 server but I am unable to connect from the Arcserve manager, auth failures.
What do I need installed on the W2K server apart from Arcserve? I found an article on the Exchnage agent that mentions having the Exchange resource kit installed!!

Any help gratefully received, IT shouldnt be this difficult.

Did you try entering the security information in the format of DomainName\UserName?

You need to install Outlook 97 or 98. I'm not sure about Outlook 2000. The CA option guide says either the "kit" or the Exchange Client (outlook)

Hi

I have just gone to restore from a backup but can't drill
down to the file I want, it stops a drive level.
Any ideas how I can sort this out.

TIA

Cheers dduuhh

Yes I have tried that. I tried both administrator and the arcserve account. Trying either domain still gives authentication errors.

I have Outlook 2000 installed, I wonder if that is causing the problem?
If I was to install the Exchange resource kit, would it be for Exchange 2000 or 5.5 ?

Outlook 2000 is not good on Exchange 5.5. It can cause MAPI issues that are keeping you out. In the backup agent program group rerun the configuration program and make sure it is successful. The Exchange agent version 9 should let you choose to try and create a new user/profile etc. If it fails, the directory the agent was installed to should have log files that will point to the cause of the problem.

To dduuhh:

It sounds like you had the option to record only job and session information. Try merging the session you are trying to restore back into the database. This may insert the details of the backup into the ARCserve database.

AndMart,
Is your issue solved or still an ongoing one.
We also had some issues with BS AS v.9 and exchange agents.
However we're still running a win nt 4.0 domain so I don't know if my solution will qualify in your enviroment, but it's worth a try...
Is the exchange box a bdc or a member server?
If it is a member server try adding the backup account to the local administrators group on the exchange box. Also on your exchange box in services, on the CA BS Backupagent RPC server add the backup account that will do the backup in the format domain\user to log on as account.
Hard to explain but I hope you understand what I mean :)
Regards,
GSC

Have now retired the Exchange 5.5 server and installed Exchange 2000 into the same domain as BrightStor but still cant see the Exchange Agent.
Have Outlook 2002 installed along with BrightStor so still think that may be the problem. Also, BrightStor is running on Windows 2000 Terminal Server which is in application mode.
Might be easier to install BrightStor on the Exchange server along with a tape drive.
