I cannot get Arcserve to compress the files when I backup the data. I have the following setup:

Win NT Srv SP6A
Arcserve V6.61 Build 834 SP2A
Quantum DLT 7000 Tape Drive

The most I can ever get on a DLT IV Cartridge is 30 GB. It does not matter if I use hardware compression or software compression. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

What sort of data are you backing up and is it already compressed? -----------------------------------------------------

My entire network. Word docs, Excel worksheets, ERP application, pictures... Some of the data would be zipped files, but a majority aren't. Theoretically, the tape should hold 70 GB compressed. I can only store about 30 GB on the tape no matter what I try.

Hi,

Txt files get compressed the most.
MPEGS, EXEs, JPGs.. etc.. cannot be compressed....

check your data...

cheers
