ArcServe v11.1 SP2 - Back-up filters not working?

I am having some trouble with ArcServe v11.1 SP2 and I am hoping someone might have an idea on this one.

I have filters setup on the nightly back-ups at both a job level and a machine level. Neither set of filters appears to be working.

For example, I have a job level file filter to exclude '*.tmp' files. This should apply (if I am understanding correctly) to all servers in the nightly back-up. However, I am getting errors nightly on all my servers that various *.tmp files were in use (which is why I dont want them included).

Another example, I have a machine level directory filter setup to exclude all files in 'd:\data_downloads\files\' from the back-up. However, those files are being backed-up nightly.

There are many other examples. Anyone have any ideas? I checked the CA knowledge base and there are 'problems' listed from months ago, but no solutions attached to them. Google'ed around and couldnt find much of anything either. Any help is greatly appreciated.

*.tmp are auto-excluded by design anyway by ARCServe if I recall correctly. What I suspect you are referring to is files backed up as part of the system state/registry to which filters do not and cannot be applied.

I'm taking a guess this is the sort of thing you maybe stumbling across in the first place:

vschumpy is right about the *.tmp files. The files that are skipped because of being part of the system state are stated as informational messages, not warnings or errors. Also ARCserve takes over the Microsoft registry key default skips for backup that are listed underneath:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

for the d:\data_downloads\files\ you need to apply the machine level filter as follows:

file pattern filter:

d:\data_downloads\files\*.*
