Could anyone please let me know of any problems that I may encounter when upgrading from Arcserve 6.5 running on NT4 Enterprise to ArcServe 2000?
Would I be better uninstalling and then reinstalling 2000 or should I just go down the upgrade route?

Many thanks

Beverley Smith

We went down the upgrade route to keep our databases intact. Not sure how well it will work for you but seems ok over here.

Hi bev, go the upgrade. It's much cheaper, however there is a particular way you'll have to upgrade it to ensure you don't get any problems. If you do decide on this then get back to me and I'll give you the hints and tips I know.

Hi Bev,
You have a problem restoring from previous tapes? sounds odd, however sounds like a database problem. If it is absolutely imperative tht you restore a specific file now then do a restore by "backup media" and use a filter to "include" and then the name of the file or directory you wish to restore. If it is not that high of a priority then we will have to troubleshoot the database. How do the backups go? do they hang at 99%? Do you have CAT files (.CAT) in the arcserve/temp directory? If you do then I can conclude that your database is not being written to. Check the environmental variables for the value CATPATH=*******. the value of ****** should be the directory of the arcserve database, make sure this exists and is the ARCserve database of the arcserve 2000 install.
to avoid all these hassles when upgrading, the best way would of been to register the upgrade key whilst you had ARCserve IT 6.61 installed. Then after it has registered a full uninstall of ARCserveIT is required, then install arcserve 2000 and it should all be dandy. If this hasn't helped let me know some more of the symptoms and I will try to help you out.

Good luck,

guru
