I am running Compaq Storageworks DLT1 1280 with ArcServe as the backup software. My backup will get to 99% then ask for blank media to be mounted, I have 7 tapes inserted into the rack. Do I need to just rotate them when it asks this or do I need to move one out of the mail slot and insert a new one or what? Any help with this would be most appreciated. BTW, I am on my fourth day on the job, the previous IT manager left a month before I got here so I got no turnover at all. I am fresh outa school by 6 months. I have never used ArcServe at all so I am learning on the fly so to speak. Once again thanks for any help with this matter.

when ARCserve asks for blank media in a tape library you don't have to move any media yourself. Just make sure there are enough blank media ( ie new tapes or tapes that are erased ) in the Library for ARCserve to complete the job.
Check the manuals on how to set this up

Hey Jeffery,

The tape drive you are using is a single DLT1 40gb drive with an Autoloader included. It looks like it has a quick load Mail Slot for single tapes and a Cartridge for 7 tapes. I'm not familiar with this device, just did a search on the Web to find the Specs, but I have used several Autoloader tape drives with Arcserve 6.6 and 9.0 on Netware 5.0 and 6.0. The manufacturers usually design the devices to run on a single SCSI address but with Logical Units for each part of the system IE; LUN0=tape drive and LUN1=changer. You need to add a switch to the SCSI driver to get it to look for LUNs as most do not look by default. Check with the MFG Docu. to see what is needed for this. Once your SCSI can see the changer hardware you will need to load the changer NLM from Arcserve. This is an Optional package for most versions but is now included with v9.0 for single drive Autoloaders. Check the CA site for documentation as well as the CDs.
