Hi, I am using Arcserve 2000 in a San environment with Compaq servers. We installed Arcserve 2000 server enterprise edition, San option and Tape library option. All on SP4.
We choosed the alternate SQL database selection.

The Sql server and backup server are seated on the same server.

When I try to backup the first server, it's no problem. With the second server the SQL database locks and says it's impossible to take a backup. The only way is to restart the backup server with the central database.
Has someone encountered this problem yet ?
Thank you

Cheers

I had a similiar problem with an SQL server, Arcserve should be able to backup SQL but I could never figure out how to do this,
The solution I found was to configure the SQL server to do a backup "dump" every night at about 11PM, you can configure the SQL Server to briefly stop the database, copy the data files to a designated backup folder and then restart, all you have to do then is to tell Arcserve include this backup folder in the backup job
Maybe this will help maybe not,

Correct you can do a maintenance plan through enterprise manager, to an NTFS share then backup the flat output with the transaction logs etc(in the maintenance plan you can backup data/transaction logs/then do integrity/space reduction etc)

The correct procedure should be to use the agent. Install this on the SQL server, then expand agents on the storage server and you should see SQL server. Expand it and enter the sa account for the sql(Ive been told to do this by CA themselves rather than use domain admin, cant remember exactly why)

You can backup every db or just select certain ones, there are options to backup and flush commited transaction logs also.

MAKE SURE YOU USE SP4 of the agent

Download SP4, there is an SQL subdir, the ONLY version this worked properly for me is Sp4, took CA two years to bring it out through(jokers arent they)
