Hi Ya'll,

I am running Arcserve 7 on a Netware 5.1 server. Backing up a volume with about 40 GB of data. Using a DLT drive.

Out of 15000+ files 10000 or so are being skipped. I am using the "Deny None" option. the files really do exist, and they are not open at backup time. The problem is not confined to this one volume or server.

I have had E3011 errors in the past but none of CA's suggestions seem to help. In this case there are no E3011 errors.

Is this a case where I need an "Open File Agent"?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi
Try to use Open File Agent
Modify the job, Global Options - Retry Tab - File sharing
change to - Use Lock Mode if deny write fails". resubmitted the job

Is AS7 installed AS7 on a SYS Volume? if yes
you can't backup NSS Volumes

I was working on this very same issue with a different client
and what I have found out that using the latest version of Novell's
TSA500.NLM causes E3011 errors on all the files stored on NSS volume(s)
whose names are 9 characters or longer. When I went back to TSA500.NLM v5.03
then the backup of the same files on the same NSS volume(s), did not produce
those "E3011 Failed to open file..." errors and files did get backed up.

What I meant by the latest version of Novell's TSA500.NLM is
specifically TSA500.NLM v5.04 dated May 24, 2000.

Hope This help
Mohammed

I also had this issue with Arcserve 7.0, either with Novell 4.0 or Novell 5.1 Finally CA technincal support admitted that in order to not skip files you must use "lock mode". With previous versions of Arcserve we have used "deny none" did not result in all those skipped files. They told me that using "lock" was the only way to resolve this issue. Of course they will be more than happy to sell you the open agent but I have successfully used "Lock Mode if deny write fails".
