I have a Compaq ML370 server that was originally configured as RAID 1. As part of a rebuild, I have the oportunity to reconfigure it to RAID 5. Is this worthwhile? If so, can I do a ground up restore from a backup I've made from the original RAID 1 configuration?

The server has three 18.2 GB drives and we're using about 10GB worth of space which isn't going to increase. It's operating system is Windows 2K Server and the backup software is Arcserve 2000.

Is it worth going to RAID 5 - would depend entirely on what you intend to use the server for, but this isn't really a question about ARCserve.

If your backup is from a hardware RAID controller I would not forsee a problem with the restore, if it is software RAID I am not sure off the top of my head - it has been so long since I heard anyone use this. IIRC the DR Option guide has specific guidelines on software RAID (if of course your using DR).
