We are backing up a 2 TB array that houses about 500 GB to a fiber connected ADIC 1000. The data is spread relatively evenly among 4 Windows 2000 directories. The backup jobs average about 170 MB/mn, which, while not stellar, is what we often see for backups of many small files. We recently had the unlikely failure in the disk array where we lost two drives in the same striping set and are now restoring from Arcserve backups. When we first started the restore one job would run at about 75 MB/mn. Any other job that we started would go at about 3-4 MB/mn. After fretting over this a while we decided to try the universal Arcserve cure all and reinstalled the software, saving the DB of course. We now are getting as much as 300 MB/mn throughput for one job. When we try to start other jobs, performance of all jobs drops to 3-4 MB/mn. Has anyone else experience this? I am very happy about the 300 MB/mn as it is 4 times more than we had previously, but it would be really nice to get mutiple jobs running in parallel.
