We have recently upgraded our client's servers from Arcserve 6.61 SP2a to Arcserve 2000 build 1100. We did a clean installation of Arc 2000 by uninstalling the 6.6 version and have recreated the jobs from scratch.

Now, here is the problem, we can backup and restore anything backed up with tapes from 2000 and 6.61. However, as soon as I say restore a file off the root of a volume to a folder other than its original location, we get a Dr. Watson Access Violation error.

CA have told us its something to do with the permissions on the servers, but my question to them is how can this be when we can backup and restore everything else?

Can some one please let me know if they have/had this problem and help us fix it?? Or is this a "known" bug in Arcserve with no fix??

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

1-What type of restore you are doing?
2-What sort of files you are trying to restore?
3-Is it happen only while restoring specific machines?
4-Is this a local restore or remote?
5-what is the size of folders/files you are trying to restore?
6-if it is a remote restore check event viewer if there is a licensing errors appearing because this is may cause the DR Watson.
7-If this happen with specific tape/session/files or it is happens for
all restore jobs.

as a workaround try to do a selective restore only specific folder/files not the whole session.

if you are trying to restore c:then deselecting the top level (C:) drive so it was half checked then try restore.

Make sure you apply the latest Tape Engine Update it solves many problems related to Arcserve & tape comunication.
Tape Engine Update can be downloaded from the link:

We have tried to restore single files these have been .exe .log .txt, all have failed. All these files were backed up by backup jobs using the Client Agents.

Yes, the latest Tape Engine update has been applied.

I've also got a Licensing error (Computer Associates Licensing -3WCA - Can't open license file), waiting for CA to give me a fix for this. I wonder, is this having an impact??
