ARC v15 running Win 2008 server, with a fiber attached StorageTek L700e library (10 drives), Sql 2005 is being used.

Backups to tape(which are LTO2/400g and less than a yr old) were running fine for a while after the new install of R15, until recently. Now all of a sudden while trying to do an inventory or the importing tapes into the library the "unreadable media" error is showing for any tape I have tried to import, even after exporting the tape from the library and trying to re-import into the same slot or any other for that matter.

Have a open case with support, I have provided tape logs and they are pointing the finger at the library, based on the fact the log doesn't show any communication errors.

Per StorageTek, the library and drives are up to date.
Standalone test on the library show no problems. Tapes are moved into slots and drives with no issues and library web based management console shows the correct tape num (bar coded)and the slots they are in, So it seems to me they are being read to a certain point, Seems like ARcserve doesn't know what tapes are in there.

could it be a corrupted db? or a screwed up tape engine?

We have had similar issues in the past with earlier versions of ARc and we've had to blow away the db and start from scratch. but doing this is getting old.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated?

Need to see an example from the tape log.
there will be an entry like this
[REQUEST SENSE]
followed probably by
<READ>
which indicates a Read command failed and the following lines will have the details from the drive on the failure.

if that does not show up then there is something else going on and it will be necessary to have more of the log and configuration details.

another approach is to just go back to CA and tell them you want them to engage a senior tech for their review of the problem.
