Situation.

Windows 2000 Sp3
ArcServe2000
Tried to run ArcServe Manager, the GUI doesn't show up, I watch the task manager process tab and the asmgr.exe shows up for ~5 seconds then dissappears.

I have tried this in the following different configurations...
with and without Win2k sp3
with and without ArcServe sp4

Check out the drwtsn32.log file. It sounds like you may be having a "silent" dr. watson (no pop up screen). The log will probably not list a process for the exception but a process ID (pid=XXX). Below that should be a list of the process ID's and the process to the right. My guess would be the ID will match up to asmgr.exe. Then I can only suggest to contact support.

I've had a similar problem with Arcserve 2000..

Try the following:

- Shutdown ArcServe Engines.
- Move / delete the 000000001.QSD folder to a backup folder. This should be located in the main Arcserve install directory.
- Restart ArcServe Engines.
- Load Arcserve System Admin and recreate backup jobs.

The problem was a corrupt arcserve job file.. when you move the folder arcserve automatically recreates the QSD folder and you need to setup your backup jobs again..

Fairly sure your problem was the same as mine..

If the recreation of the Job queue doesn;t help....

Uninstall ARCserve2000 , clear out the directory.
delete the ARCserve Key from the registry.

reinstall\repatch..

cheers
