Please I am having an error of W6910 and thus the backup ends prematurely

Please can someone help

What version of Arcserve?
Please cut and paste the ENTIRE error out of the job/activity log.

It Arcserve 2000. The errors are:

W6910 The tape drive has a problem with the host interface

W6300 Windows NT SCSI Port Error [ABSL: 4010 CMD: 8h)SCSI Command Retry

W6300 Windows NT SCSI Port Error [ABSL: 4010 CMD: 8h NT: 45Dh 1117]

These are the errors I am getting.

You have a hardware problem:
- Reseat all cables
- Power cycle the tape drive and the computer it is connected to.
- Clean the tape drive
- Try a different tape

If those steps don't help, you most likely have a failing tape drive.

I had the same errors. Dell actually replaced the backplane for the magazine and the scsi controller. When the error still occurred, they replaced the terminator on the back of the tape drive. That did the trick.

After applying every service pack and firmware available, IBM finally replaced the older SCSI cable with a better quality one (insulation etc). We also updated the SCSI drivers with ones that were realease 11th August. Backups are now successful and speed is good.

We've had these errors and are currently waiting for replacement scsi cables to hopefully sort.

I wrote a FAQ on What a NT SCSI Port error is that might help to understand what is going on. Check under the Tape Engine section.
