Just did a new install of arcserve 11.1 along with SP1, to bring the build up to 3100. I have installed in the server a Panasonic LF-D201 DVD-RAM drive, which I want to use as a backup device. However when I try to configure this device in arcserve...it cant find any removable drives. I'm using windows server 2003....on a IBM server. The hardware and OS see the drive no problem....even arcserve sees the drive if I go into other screens in the program. But I can't configure it for some reason....and the drive is in the certified list. Any help would be great.....it's a nightmare trying to get a hold of those CA tech support....they put you on hold for hours...or they call you back after the work day is over....I'm sitting here waiting for them to call me now....man! what a pain. So any help would be great. Thanks.

Key is to make sure it doesn't show as a CD-ROM drive in Windows - if it does - then you need to load a driver for it (from the hardware manufacturer) to make it appear as a readable. Once that is done run device configuration and select the option to configure removable drives.

Also there is a Tape Engine update.

I had the same problem, I had to run the latest update, which adds FSDs to the device options - file system devices. IIRC Arcserves site is a mess, and you have to hunt around a fair bit to find it, but it is there, and it is free.

Took a while to work that out, as it was working, then after a reinstall it disappeared . . . I think I got the answer here, now I think of it!
