I am trying to attempt brick level backups of our Exchange Server using the Arcserve backup agent for Microsoft Exchange, but keep getting the error message "Failed to get information for the specified account, EC=1314".

I have created the Backup Agent Service Account with the specified group assignments and have also given this user the Service Account administrative permission on the proper levels of the organization tree in Exchange.

I have checked that the RPC service is running, tried uninstalling and re-installing the agent, but still no joy.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi bud,
Please mention the versions of the applications being used...

1. Is this Exchange 2000 or Exchange 5.5??
2. Is that Exchange server a Domain Controller or a Member server.. If it is a member server you need to create an identical BackupAgentAccount on the local server, assign group memberships and advanced user rights..
Login locally to the box and not to the domain when you install the Agent..(machine_name\user)..
3. Do you have a Mail client (outlook) on the Exchange server??
4. If this is Exchange 2000 and you have OUtlook 2000 installed on it.. please verify that the file MAPIsvc.inf in the Commonfiles\NT\1033 is about 10K in size...if not copy this file from the system32 folder and paste it...
5. 1314 is a permissions related error...verify that the user you have created is unique..(no other user should have the same first 3 letters..e.g Exchagent and Exchadmin)

Hope this helps...
Thanx

Thanks for the info.

The Exchange Server is running Exchange 5.5, and the server is not a Domain Controller or a Member server. The Mail client installed on the server is Outlook 98.

When I installed the client I was logged into the domain, so I will try what you suggest and re-install it logged onto the local machine.

One other thing Speshalyst when you say no other user should have the same first 3 letters do you mean on the Exchange server on which I am trying to install the client or on the entire site?

Thanks for the help so far, will let you know the outcome.

When I got this message it was because I hadn't configured the exchange agent whilst logged on as the exchange service account. I had to log on with the exchange service account, configure the exchange agent with the mailbox / user account information, then log back into the server with our normal domain admin account. I was told to make sure that the RPC service was using the exchange service account and stop and restart it. Then I could see and backup my mailboxes.

Sorry if you know all this but when I first installed the exchange agent it wasn't very clear in the user guides.

Thanks for the tip HeleneP, will try it when I am in the office tomorrow and let you know if it solves the problem.

Thanks HeleneP, your tip worked and Brick Level backups are working fine now. Thanks again to all for your help.

Glad I could help. I'm pleased it worked 'cos I've never posted replies to anything like this before for fear of making an idiot of myslelf.
