I am getting the following error when trying to backup my Exchange server.

E8601 Failed to Connect Agent (Agent=dbaxchg2, EC=Backup Agent Error - (85) "Invalid User ID or Password was submitted")

Now I obviously know it has something to do with a user account, but I am not sure how I can go about to fix it, any advice would be great!!!!! Thanks

What version of exchange? Have you followed installation of the exchange agent to the letter? A major trap is that people use a domain administrator which is good, but the primary group MUST be domain admins, not domain users!!!! Make sure the mailbox you have the account pointing to is a service account at Organisation, site and domain levels as well! Also, to make sure its working, try to expand brick level before backing it up.

good luck,

I had the same issue today . I have resolved it , no thanks to CA . Still waiting for their call...

Use the following :

Q: When running a backup, I get "E8601 unable to connect with client DBagentexch EC=402"

A: PROBLEM 1: Gets the above error when trying to go through Bricks Level. This error will be received if the mailbox that was used during the install of the DBagent is hidden. During the install, the DBagent mailbox was not hidden. After the install he hid that mailbox, then he got the above error. We ran some tests and it will only work if the DBagent mailbox is not hidden. RESOLUTION 1: Do not hide the DBagent mailbox in Exchange Administrator.

PROBLEM 2: Will get the above error message (402) if you try to backup an Internet Mail connector. Internet Mail connectors look similar to mailboxes. Yet, they are not mailboxes. RESOLUTION 2: You cannot backup Internet Mail connectors.
