I'm using NT4.0 SP6 and ArcServe IT 6.61. I'm receiveing an error during the backup which involves a quickbooks file. The error is E3406 "Unable to read from file" sharing violation. I can manually back the file up with no problems, but during a scheduled back up it is skipped. I have followed the instructions given by CA on checking the permissions, but I'm still receiving this error. Any help would be appreciated.

triton21,

In case you hadn't tried the obvious (having made the same mistake myself), have you checked the AS account ? If it's not using the administrator account then it may be a permissioning problem.

Check the ARCserve Server Admin under the Admin: ARCserve System Account. If it's not the local Adminstrator, then try local admin, and then check that the ownership and permissions on the directory are intact. We've seen the permissioning on a raid drive for a file server go to pieces so it's not impossible, just improbable.

Check the AS KB for pages like this one:

The have most of the error messages you get in the activity log listed there.

Hope that helps.
