I'm new to this IT position and have no formalized training. Having said that, I recently (accidentally) clicked on the SQL Server Upgrade Wizard on our server. When I rebooted the server, I got two faults in the Event Log. The first fault is "The Computer Browser service terminated with server-specific error 2550." The second fault is "The ARCServe Discovery service depends on the Computer Browser service which failed to start because of the following error: The service has returned a server-specific error code." These faults come from the Service control Manager.
Now, I have tried to go into the Services in the control panel and manually start both the Computer Browser and ARCServe (they are set to automatically start) but I keep getting: "Error 2550: The browser service was configured with MaintainServerList=No."

I have restarted this server before and never got these faults. I'm running Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 6 and I recently installed PCAnywhere (but I don't believe that installation is connected to the fault).
If anyone has any advice as to how I can get the Computer Browser and ARCServe Discovery Service back up and running Please let me know.
Thanks

First thing to say is that you don't NEED either service and they could both be disabled no problem.

As your error messages are telling you, the Arcserve Discovery service is failing becuase it needs the computer browser service to be running.

The reason the computer browser service is probably failing is becuase you your server is set not to browse.

Either fix this problem using the following Q article:

or disable both services.
