I am having a problem in restoring a Compaq server. I have made the bootable cd and the profile disk for the remote server. Everything looks fine when doing the disaster recovery but when it comes to step (12) in the (C.A) instructions. I have a problem in that it does not show any media to use, to restore from.

I have a Compaq DLT 891 10 slot magazine system. When doing the restore I have tried it with the tape in the drive and still in the magazine holder.

My arcserve server is arcserve 2000 with spe3. The client agents are sp3 for arcserve as well.

Can anyone explain to me why it does not show any media, as with it nit showing any media I cannot select any sections to restore from the tape that contains the full backup of the remote server.

There's a patch for Arcserve, that addresses the server not advertising it's self on the network. If this is your only Arcserve system, this might address it. The way to tell if it is is to install the manager on a workstation, and see if you see your arcserve server. If not, you should apply this patch.

I have encounterd the same thing with the floppy disk method and the CD method. I have rebuilt the server several times while trying the DR process. Trying to do more research before blowing away anothe server.

Apply service pack 4 for Arcserve and this fixes the problem I had. Make sure that you apply the service pack to all your NT servers including the Arcserve 2000 admin server.

If you plan to do a Compaq server then I have attached the instructions on how I hound the best way of doing it.

1)At the backup server create the machine specific recovery diskette

2)Boot the machine to be recovered using the ArcServe 2000 DRO CD. Follow on-screen prompts until you are asked which partition to use.

3)Delete all partitions (except the EISA partition on Compaq servers – if it exists), and then recreate the original partition configuration. This will ensure any corrupt data is destroyed.

4)Select the C: partition to install to, format as NTFS

5)Follow on-screen prompts until the screen displaying information about the tape drive and media is displayed.

6)Click Cancel, and then boot the machine from a Windows 2000 CD.

7)Choose to recover the OS, and run the Recovery Console.

8)Log into the installation in C:\DROBOOT.TMP (there is no password)

9)Use the format utility to format all partitions except C:

10)Exit the recovery console, and then boot the machine from the hard disk.

11)When prompted click next, accept the session assignments, then start the restore

12)You should not need to modify the boot.ini file.

13)Reboot.

Good Luck
