Hi,
I am running ArcServe 9.0 on Windows 2000 server. I am backing up a bunch of database files located in a single directory. One of the files is slowing down the backup. I am trying to determine which file. Is there any way to tell the speed that each individual file was backed up with? When I display the backup status it only shows me the directory name it is currently backing up.

Thank you much.

If you double click on the active job it should show you the active file as well as the directory it is backing up.

Another way around this is to set 'Log all activity' in the global options of the backup job - it will literally write every file it backs up to the log and the timestamp it did it in. That way you can perhaps see where the problem is ?

Mind you, don't get caught in the trap of thinking your backup speed is going down simply because it is backing up a huge file, the Mb/Sec figure will only be truly reflected once it has finished backing up that big file and you will probably find it jumps up all of the sudden when it is done.

How do you know that "one" of the files is slowing down the backup?

Large files usually backup faster than the same amount of data in smaller files because with each file there is overhead. So with a large file all it has to do is just keep streaming data until it reaches the end of the file.

There is not a debug that will report the throughput in a specific point of time.

If these are all large files, try running test jobs setup to backup just one or two files. However this will only work if the files are large.
