Would appreciate quick help on this one.

I am using Arcserve 2000 AE (Version 7) with SP5 installed . The DLT drive is a brand new HP VS80 DLT Drive. The server is a ML370 and am backing up local drives.

The problem is that my backup starts at a very speed (at least that is what Arcserve shows) and then starts dropping. My realised throughput is around 10 MB per min.

I did some Google and found that shutting off the Removable Storage service might solve the issue, but this is not the case.

This has me really worried. Would appreciate help. DO let me know if yu need any more information on my setup.

this is typical when a directory containing lots of small files is being backed up.

No, that is not a proper explanation of an issue. I say this because I have managed to resolve this by just updating the DLT VS80 drivers from the HP site.

What happens is that ARCServe, on installation, overwrites the hardware provider drivers. I am now getting speeds of upto 250 mb/min. And trust me, I have a lot of directories with a lot of small files.

What's more, I don;t need to keep the Removable Storage service off. Though I don't know if I might need it at all. Intend to shut it down anyway.

It would be pretty hard for ARCserve to overwrite the hardware provider drivers since it doesn't use them (or install them)

It has it's own tape engine which works independantly of windows device drivers.

But hey, if it's working for you - good luck.
