We are using Exchange5.5 sp4 on a NT4.0 sp6 server. Since installing the InoculateIT option for exchange, our backup of 200 individual mailboxes, using Arcserve 2000 exchange option, is extremely slow. It takes more than an entire day to complete. If I disable the mail option, in the InoculateIT realtime mail optons, the backup will complete in about 2 hours. I have been in touch with CA for several months and they have yet to come up with an answer. Anybody else having similiar performance problems, with this or other mail virus software, when performing backups of individual mailboxes?

Arcserve Backup of Individual Mailboxes is slow.

After many e-mails to CA they came up with a solution for this issue. Just thought I'd post it here in case any one is having similiar problem.
"These are the things to check.
1. update the virus signature only on a Friday Evening
2. Enable the Background Scanning in the Real Time Mail Options after the sig
nature update on Friday. Do not take a backup that Friday night
nor saturday and Sunday.
3. Monday morning disable the Background Scanning,take the Exchange Backup
for the remaining days of the week.
Explanation:
Whenever a signature update takes place on the server, all attachments in the
Store will need to be sent for scanning to the AV product installed on the
system when these attachments are accessed. This is done by Microsoft's AVAPI
which sents the attachments to Inoculate (or any other Antivirus product) for
scanning. AVAPI has higher thread priority than MAPI and this causes the
backup (since it works on MAPI) to be slow or even fail."
