Hi,

I have 2 MSX servers being backed up by a 3rd server which is running Arcserve 2000, service Pack 4.

One of the MSX servers (server A) is an existing server that was installed as MSX 5.5 and upgraded to MSX 2000. I am using the Arcserve agent to do Information Store backups on this system sucessfully.

But the other MSX server (server B) is a new MSX 2000 server that I built from scratch -- but I cannot get the IS backup to work. Jobs always "Fail" immediately aftyer start.

My issue is that when I browse my Backup Manager and look under the Agent for "Server A", I can see an object for "Microsoft Information Store", which expands to "First Storage Group" etc.
But for "Server B", there is an object called "Microsoft Exchange Server". This object does not expand, and there is no way to select any public/private folders...not is there anyway to set agent options.

I have tried to remove/reinstall the agent from "Server B", but this has not helped. So I am currently unable to do any IS backup on "Server B". Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ronnie

The second machine is being seen as an Exchange 5.5 machine. It sounds as if you installed the Exchange agent from a version that does not recognize Exhcange 2000. In the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ComputerAssociates \ARCserveIT \ DSAgent \ CurrentVersion \ Agent \ dbaexch
look to see if a value isExch2000 (REG_DWORD) is present. My guess is it is not. Try adding it with a value of 1 and make sure sp4 for ARCserve 2000 is applied to the base product and the Exchange agent. You may then be able to see the agent correctly. Otherwise, you will need to uninstall the exchange agent and reinstall with a version of the agent that recognized Exchange 2000 (CD stated ARCserve 2000 backup agent for Exchagne 2000, or the BrightStor ARCserve 2000 CD).

Yep. I worked it out eventually. It was a version problem with the software that caused the MSX server to be seen as a 5.5 system. Thanks for the help.

Ronnie
