I really need some help on this problem..

Nt4 SP6a with Exchange 5.5 SP 4

Read all the CA documentation and did what they said.

I can back-up anything on my mailserver but as soon as I get into the bricklayer it comes up with error 85 wrong ID and password.
Tried username / password, domainname\username / password
It really does not matter what I do:
The agent is set correctly on the mail server with no errors.
The account has Admin rights all the way down in Exchange.
The account is part of the domain admin group and back-up group. Domain admin group is primary.
Outlook is installed, configured and tested on the mailserver with the username.
All the latest patches are loaded.
The username I use is not the same as the domain admin username.

If anyone is seeing something I missed please advise.

Hope this Helps

Do you want to try the "backup agent RPC service" on the exchange server, to log on as the domain admin account ?

Also, make sure your mailbox alias has the first three letters unique when compared to all other alias's.

Hi Guru

I already did both of them...

To give you more info:
When I go to the brick lvl it prompt for the ID & pass.
When I enter the pass it comes back with the error.
If I cancel I can go into the brick lvl and browse.
However for each mailbox the same error comes up.

When I do a brick lvl backup it fails, now the weird part..
I then do a restore and I am able to restore folders in any mailbox.

The log on back-up basicly tells me no acces to the mailboxes.

This one has me stumped...

Any ideas will be more than welcome. Hope this Helps

Hi Marius,
When you configure the backup agent, does it accept the authentication properly? Also you mention the account has admin rights all the way down exchange, but are we sure they are service account admin rights? Have you tried also initialising the mailbox you created (I know you said you tested so i assume you did initialise with some mail), also have you made sure the mailbox alias's first three letters do not clash with the first three letters of any other mailbox?

Hope this helps too,

guru

Guru
When I configured the RPC agent it does authenticate properly. The mailbox is initialised by sending mail to it.
Also the RPC agent is setup to log on as the domain admin account.

Yes the alias is very unique nothing is even remotely the same.

As I said it only happen when I try to acces the brick lvl.

Any ideas? Hope this Helps

Fixed IT!!!!

The fix is as follow:

The dbaxchg2.dll was updated with the latest patches from CA. I reverted back to the dll dated 5/4/01.

As soon as I did it everything started working.

Thanks for all the help!! Hope this Helps
