How do I view the amount of free space left on my tape media?

You can only view the size of data written to tape ,since the free tape space is not easy to calculate since it depend of files type & compression if it is enabled or not and also it depend on tape drive since if the data stream from OS to tape drive is slow Arcserve is going to fill the block with anything (it depend on tape vender some of them with XXX) since block has to be filled before it can be written to tape.

Space remaining on tape will be reported in the activity log at the end of the job. Depending on the version it will say something like Media Remaining Capacity. At the same point in the log it will say Media Compression Ratio.

However this is a function of the tape drive so if the tape drive does not support it then they will not be reported. Safe to say if your log does not have it then it is because your tape drive does not support it. At that point you can check the database for the amount of data written to tape.

Note: As mohamdr said it may not be of much value. If you are not using compression it will be acurate if compression is used it will not be very acurate.
